if your receiver is older and doesnt have 8x1 support you can still use this switch. There are Two ways of setting up your Switch: 
1. Through DiseqC 1.1 by changing uncommitted setting and using 8 ports
2. you may also use your USALS (motor Setting) or DISEQC 1.2 , you need to make 8 different setting for each satellite signals so the receiver thinks you are using a motor.
